The Boston Flower Show

Every year the Boston Flower Show blows me away! Each display is a piece of art! The creativity that each team puts into designing their exhibit is just amazing. They are full of color, personality, and stunning plants. It really provides great inspiration for your gardens.

We have been honored again to be a part of the window box display (see picture below!) and our owner, Beth, was a judge again!! We are so proud to be a part of such a wonderful network of people who pour their hearts and souls into their work and create such beauty for us to enjoy!

The show runs from Wednesday the 22nd to Sunday the 26th, so make sure to check it out!

I would love to spend the afternoon on that bench.

Pantone Color of 2017: Greenery

The 2017 Pantone color of the year is... Greenery!!! And we couldn't be more excited about this year's choice. What are most passionate about is greenery!! Our purpose is to bring the beauty of outside nature into people's offices and homes. Our designs are aimed to provide a feeling of freshness and life. We all have a sense of calm when we are around plants, and plants bring so many benefits to our living spaces. Greenery reminds us that we can start new and fresh each day!

From Pantone: A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world.

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

Getting your Poinsettia to Re-Bloom!

After the holidays one of the most frequently asked questions is ....

"Can I get my poinsettia to bloom again?!"

In short ... Yes! (but it takes time!)

Here's how...

1. During the winter months give it as much light as possible (without direct sunlight)

2. Keep it well watered, but DO NOT fertilize

3. In the early spring (April) cut it back to about 8" high

4. Be sure to remove any colored bracts (leaves) that are left

5. Start to fertilize with houseplant food every other week.

6. In late September you need to give the plant 9-10 hours of good light per day and 14-15 hours of complete darkness for the rest of the day.

7. By the first of December begin treating it like a regular houseplant

Best of luck!! It can be a fun challenge with a colorful reward in a year!

Poinsettia Care

This is the time of year that your local nurseries (and grocery stores and Home Depot and the list goes on) have stocked up the ever popular holiday favorite plant: the Poinsettia

These plants come in all sorts of colors now and can be just so beautiful! But the real question is: How do you keep them ALIVE?!

Well, we are here to help! Here are some get tips for keeping that poinsettia of yours thriving through the holiday season.

Lighting Preference: High (so if you can, place your poinsettia in a really sunny and happy spot)

Water Needs: Moist at all times (but be sure that it's not wet, you can quickly kill a plant with over watering) If you keep your poinsettia in a plastic saucer, we actually suggest that you water through the saucer. The soil in the pot will soak up the water from the base of the saucer.

Water Stress Symptoms: Sheds yellow leaves then the poinsettia is too dry. Sheds green lease and colored bracts (what looks like the flower) then the poinsettia has much to much water.

Other tips: A. Add 1/2" of water to the saucer B. In low light, keep the soil on the dryer side C. Use room temp water D. Remove yellow leaves E. Keep poinsettia in a warm location, they don't like being cold.

Good Luck! We'd love to hear how your poinsettia is doing!
