Getting your Poinsettia to Re-Bloom!

After the holidays one of the most frequently asked questions is ....

"Can I get my poinsettia to bloom again?!"

In short ... Yes! (but it takes time!)

Here's how...

1. During the winter months give it as much light as possible (without direct sunlight)

2. Keep it well watered, but DO NOT fertilize

3. In the early spring (April) cut it back to about 8" high

4. Be sure to remove any colored bracts (leaves) that are left

5. Start to fertilize with houseplant food every other week.

6. In late September you need to give the plant 9-10 hours of good light per day and 14-15 hours of complete darkness for the rest of the day.

7. By the first of December begin treating it like a regular houseplant

Best of luck!! It can be a fun challenge with a colorful reward in a year!

Have a Holly Jolly Season!

It's the best time of the year! ....

After all the chaos of holiday decorating and gift buying, we would like to take a moment to reflect on what this time of year means to us. Whether you are celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or just celebrating family; this season is a time for loving, caring, and sharing precious moments with those you love. A time to step back from the every day bustle and appreciate all that we have. A time to celebrate one another and the joy we bring each other throughout the year.

We hope everyone has a safe and love filled holiday season!

.... So have a cup of CHEER!!

Happy Holidays!

Love,

The Harding Botanicals Family ♥

Poinsettia Care

This is the time of year that your local nurseries (and grocery stores and Home Depot and the list goes on) have stocked up the ever popular holiday favorite plant: the Poinsettia

These plants come in all sorts of colors now and can be just so beautiful! But the real question is: How do you keep them ALIVE?!

Well, we are here to help! Here are some get tips for keeping that poinsettia of yours thriving through the holiday season.

Lighting Preference: High (so if you can, place your poinsettia in a really sunny and happy spot)

Water Needs: Moist at all times (but be sure that it's not wet, you can quickly kill a plant with over watering) If you keep your poinsettia in a plastic saucer, we actually suggest that you water through the saucer. The soil in the pot will soak up the water from the base of the saucer.

Water Stress Symptoms: Sheds yellow leaves then the poinsettia is too dry. Sheds green lease and colored bracts (what looks like the flower) then the poinsettia has much to much water.

Other tips: A. Add 1/2" of water to the saucer B. In low light, keep the soil on the dryer side C. Use room temp water D. Remove yellow leaves E. Keep poinsettia in a warm location, they don't like being cold.

Good Luck! We'd love to hear how your poinsettia is doing!

Keeping up with the trends: 2016 Holiday Trends

Not only did Harding Botanicals attend TPIE this winter, we also got to venture the halls of the Dallas Market Center! We spent a few days in glitter filled rooms picking out our favorite ornaments and sprays, chatting with sales reps about their new lines, and viewing the upcoming trends for the 2016 Holiday season. Take a look at some of the new emerging designs for this year.

1. Metallics: we are SO excited about this one! We LOVE metallics and the idea of a fully monochromatic design!

2. Frosty Blue and White: This color scheme first appeared last year in 2014/2015 with the ever popular Frozen movie, but this year they have really outdone themselves with revamping the design and making it so much more elegant.

3. Rose Quartz: This is a new color on the market this year, it's a light gold/light pink color. They have paired it up with champagne, silver, and pearl. What are your thoughts on this new design?

4. Rustics: This is a trend that has been around for a while. We love how comfy cozy this look is. The rustic look uses neutral tones and very country and "homey" ornaments.

Upon returning we have been inspired by all that we saw and have come up with some of our own designs! We can't to get started putting our ideas into reality and creating some new and fresh stuff for our clients!
