The Ramblings of    a Greenhouse  Gardener

To be a gardener means you must love that feeling of dirt under your fingernails, being surrounded by plants, and digging into the soil with no reserve. This is just a part of the magic we live every day at Harding Botanicals.

In this blog we hope to nurture our existing and prospective clients with the going-ons of Harding Botanicals as well as provide educational information about the plant world.

Who's Watering My Plants?

April 05, 2016

As an Interior plantscaping company we not only provide plant design for office buildings, we specialize in professional care of those precious plants. What does this mean? In our arsenal we have our highly trained horticultural technicians!

What do they do? First off they LOVE plants!! Our horticultural technicians are equipped with the knowledge to keep plants thriving for years. We train our technicians the proper way to water, prune, clean, fertilize, inspect & treat for pests, and write up replacement orders. Generally, without professional care, plants begin to diminish within 3 to 6 months, due to over watering, under watering, root rot, etc.

Watering can actually be a science! There are many factors that our technicians take into consideration when watering, including plant variety, light levels, grow pot size, soil, roots, and age of plant.  When a plant is in the window, they consider the time of year, length of day, and strength of sun. Plants are very susceptible to the office environment; the warm summer days bring cold AC to the office while freezing winter days the plants get blasted with heat.

Our technicians take great pride in their work and treat every plant as an individual. Aesthetics go a long way when it comes to our plants, paying attention to the balance and proportion of each plant in its setting. Our technicians evaluate each location asking various questions: Is the plant too large or small for its location? Is the container clean and appropriate for that plant? Are the leaves dusty? Does the plant show health and vitality? Does the plant need to be turned more often?

So if you see one of our horticultural technicians in your building stop and say hi to them! They would love to meet you!
