Living Art Inspiration

We think that green walls are a more recent innovation, but the first hint of green walls can be found in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, though they have have been more roof gardens than green walls. Our favorite designer of green walls, French botanist, Patrick Blanc, is credited for the 'modern' green walls as we know them. These walls have a full hydroponic system and a wide collection of exotic plants.

Green walls are already very popular in Europe and Asia (especially Singapore), but they are starting to gain traction here in the USA! And we couldn't be more excited. We love everything about green walls; the beauty they add to the space, their air filtration, their patterns, and they fact that they are always growing and slightly changing. Here are a few living art/green walls that have really inspired us! Check out our Green Walls board for more inspiration.

The Aechmea: a beautiful house plant

The Aechmea plant is technically an airplant. Aechmea's can be acclimated to higher light situations but ideally they prefer indirect light/moderate shade. Since an Aechmea is an air plant they use their roots for support, so when watering an Aechmea pour the water into the central cup of the plant, though change the water frequently else bacterial will grow and can cause a nasty odor and can rot out the plant.

Escaping the cold New England winter

Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association puts together a yearly show for us interior landscapers (and for the warmer states exterior landscaping) Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition or as us plant people like to call it TPIE. Here we get to meet with our vendors as well as very potentially new vendors. While we were down there this year we took time out of our schedules to visit some spectacular new nurseries!

Excelsa Gardens really just knocked us away! Their nursery was just darling and felt as though we had been swept away into a new and magical world. Here are some pictures of our adventures there! Thanks Excelsa Gardens for showing us around and sharing a piece of your heaven with us!
